Rick Evans

My name is Rick Evans. I am married to my remarkable wife, Sandra, and we live in the Atlanta, Georgia metro area.

We have three married children and three grandchildren. I hold a Masters in Theological Studies with a concentration in Christian Theology and History from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.

Additionally, I have a Certificate of Completion in the Holy Conversation Spiritual Director Training through the Anglican Diocese in New England.

I am also a Pilgrim in the dispersed Neo-monastic Community of Aidan and Hilda. I love hiking, trail running, and other activities that allow one to go deep into nature, see amazing things, exert effort, and have a sense of adventure.

As a friend likes to say, I encourage you to “Journey Well!”

FAQs

How do the spiritual direction sessions take place?

Spiritual Direction can be done in person or over video. Spiritual direction is a practice where an individual is guided by a spiritual director to deepen their relationship with God, discern God’s presence and guidance, and live the abundant life Christ provides.

What is the goal of spiritual direction?

The hope is that each individual will find the journey that best fits who they are as an image of God, wherever they find themselves. As Jesus said in John 10:10 (NIV), "I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." Eugene Peterson paraphrased it in The Message: "I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of."

Who can benefit from spiritual direction?

Anyone seeking a deeper understanding of their spiritual life, facing life transitions, or looking for guidance on their spiritual path can benefit from spiritual direction.

Is spiritual direction the same as therapy?

While both can offer support during challenging times, spiritual direction specifically focuses on your spiritual life and relationship with God. It is not a substitute for psychological therapy, but it can complement other forms of personal support.

What can I expect from a session?

Sessions typically involve open dialogue, reflection, and guided practices tailored to your spiritual needs and questions. The goal is to explore your spiritual beliefs, experiences, and practices in a supportive and confidential environment.

What qualifications do spiritual directors have?

Qualified spiritual directors typically have formal training in spiritual care, theology, or related fields. Many also adhere to ethical guidelines and participate in ongoing education to enhance their practice.
